North West families having to choose between fuel or food



The Regional President of St Vincent De Paul in the North West is warning that many families in the counties of Sligo, Leitrim and Donegal are having to choose between buying food or fuel in the lead up to Christmas.

 

Rosa Glacken has issued as the warning as St Vincent De Paul launched their annual Christmas appeal.

 

She says there has been a steady demand for their services in this region at all times, however the recent increase in fuel and home heating prices has pushed many families towards poverty with many families now seeking support from St Vincent De Paul.

 

A similar situation is being reported right throughout the country with St. Vincent de Paul predicting that calls for help this year will be at their highest level in its history and could reach almost 200,000 by the end of December.

 

 

The Regional President says having to choose between putting food on the table or heating homes is a decision that unfortunately many families are having to make:
