Rising building costs impacting on local authority projects



The CEO and cathaoirleach of Sligo County Council have both voiced concern over the rising cost of building materials and the consequences of that for the local authority.

 

Chief executive Martin Lydon said the 35% increase in the cost of building materials will ultimately impact on the buying power of the council, with tender prices expected to rise by 12% on 2020 prices.

 

He said the council had already seen the consequences of increased costs in relation to the C and the new community centre in Cranmore, with both projects retendered as contractors were unable to stand over their prices.

 

He said this in turn leads to additional contract management costs because of the revised procurement process.
