Minister McConologue to meet with farmers impacted by Leitrim landslide



The Minister for Agriculture, Charlie McConalouge will visit Drumkeerin later today where he is expected to meet with local farmers and landowners impacted by the landslide which took place on Shass Mountain in June of last year.

 

Minister McConalogue will be accompanied by the Minister of State at the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage Malcom Noonan TD during the visit.

 

 

Stakeholder and steering groups have been set up in response to the landslide.  It’s also understood that some of the groups will hold meeting later today with Minister McConalogue in relation to how the landslide will impact future farm payments they will be entitled to on the lands damaged by the landslide which took place in June 2020.

 

Drumkeerin based County Councillor Mary Bohan says it’s vital that the cause of the landslide is established, the Fianna Fáil Councillor say’s farmers must be compensated for their land that is currently buried under 16,000 tonnes of peat.
