Mother and Baby home redress scheme to go before cabinet

A redress scheme for the survivors of Mother and Baby Homes will be brought before Cabinet this morning.

The scheme, which is  expected to cost more than 800 million euro, follows the publication of the report by the Commission of Investigation last January.

The payment plan was to be drawn up by the end of April, however it was delayed as costs were finalised.

The Children’s Minister, Roderic O Gorman says once approved by government, the proposals will be shared with survivors and former residents and published on the departments website.

Responding to the news, Donegal Independent TD Thomas Pringle says the compensation isn’t the main issue for survivors.
