Letterkenny University Hospital second most overcrowded nationally

Latest figures show 19 Covid patients are in Letterkenny University Hospital receiving treatment and 13 in Sligo University Hospital.

Letterkenny is also the second most overcrowded hospital in the country today according to the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation’s Trolley Watch with 43 people waiting for a bed with a further 19 waiting in Sligo.

Dr Anthony Breslin, Director of Public Health for the HSE north-west says over the past two weeks there has been a significant increase in the number of cases detected right across Sligo, Leitrim and Donegal.

In the latest data, the Manorhamilton Local Electoral Area has the second highest 14 day rate of Covid-19 per 100,000 population at 1,811.

Dr Breslin says while the number of cases is likely to increase in the coming weeks, the number of people being hospitalised are much reduced compared to earlier in the year.
