Calls for culling measures to deal with growing deer population

The ever increasing number of the deer population in the region is being described as a danger to motorists, hill walkers and hikers.

The increase of population of deer in the north Leitrim is also leading to concern among farmers over the deer’s carrying ticks that can also spread Lyme’s disease and lead to outbreaks of TB.

Cllr Justin Warnock is calling on the minister for agriculture, Donegal TD Charlie McConalogue to introduce culling measures and the erection of deer fencing on all forestry.
