Prominent Leitrim Green Party member opposes issuing of prospecting licence

A prominent member of the Green Party in Leitrim has broken ranks with his party leader in opposing the granting of a gold and silver prospecting licence in North Leitrim.

Johnny Gogan, a former general and local election candidate, says he has difficulties with the company to be granted the licence, Flintridge Resources, and has made a submission on the matter outlining his concerns.

There’s been intense opposition among groups in North Leitrim to the decision of Environment Minister, Eamon Ryan, to grant the prospecting licence.

Mr Gogan made his views known on the North West Today show earlier.
