311 patients in first week of November waiting for hospital bed in the region



The first week of November was the worst week since the beginning of the pandemic for hospital overcrowding.

A total of 311 patients were forced to wait for a bed in Sligo and Letterkenny University Hospitals over the week.

66 were waiting in Sligo while Letterkenny remains as one of the most overcrowded hospitals in the country where 245 patients were waiting on trolley or chairs.

The latest Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation’s Trolley Watch figure shows Letterkenny is the second worst hit today with 45 patients waiting and a further 25 in Sligo.

22 Covid-19 patients are receiving treatment in Letterkenny University Hospital and 11 in Sligo University Hospital.
