Credit Union bill to be debated in the Dáil

Credit unions could be allowed to do mortgages and current accounts, if a new bill being brought forward by a Sligo Leitrim TD gets support in the Dáil.

The Independent Group wants Credit Unions to be allowed to provide more services to their members.

This Bill would allow a credit union to provide a greater range of financial services to its members, such as current accounts.

Its private members motion will be debated in the Dáil this morning.

Independent TD Marian Harkin says credit unions are too restricted – and need to expand.
