Calls for independent body to be established to investigate claims of abuse



The Irish Council for Civil Liberties says the abuse residents experienced in Donegal care facilities ‘could have and should have’ been prevented.

Sinead Nolan, Public Engagement and Communications Officer with the ICCL highlighted the fact that Ireland signed up to the UN’s anti torture treaty in 2007 yet it has not been ratified.

The human rights group are calling for the immediate implementation of a National Preventive Mechanism as set out in the UN protocol.
