Dominant Tourlestrane deliver Sligo six-in-a-row

Tourlestrane’s appetite for Sligo senior football county titles shows no signs of waning following Sunday’s impressive 2-12 to 0-7 victory over Coolera/Strandhill in the 2021 Homeland SFC decider to complete an historic six-in-a-row.

A dominant third quarter, during which the champions outscored their opponents by 1-5 to 0-1, proved pivotal.

Team captain dedicated this latest win to the club’s secretary Cathy Egan, who passed away earlier this year, and whose son Brian was part of the championship-winning side on Sunday.

For Coolera/Strandhill, the final proved a rude awakening.

They actually led Tourlestrane by 0-4 to 0-3 at the end of a low-scoring and even first half.

But the holders were a transformed side in the third quarter and their blitz of scores did the real damage.

Earlier, St Pat’s beat St Michael’s in the Connacht Gold Junior ‘A’ football final by 1-15 to 1-8.
