Not enough gardai in Donegal, Pringle tells Dail

Independent TD for Donegal Thomas Pringle has called on the Government to ensure that deployment of Gardaí to the county is fair and proportionate.

He said Donegal is three times the size, in terms of population, to the likes of Longford yet he feels his native county has a lesser representation of Gardaí deployed.

Figures released to the deputy show 382 Gardaí were deployed in Co. Donegal in 2016, 386 in 2017, 404 for 2018, 460 in 2019, 462 in 2020 and 449 this year.

Deputy Pringle says in some areas, such as Glenties, Killybegs and Ardara, there are only two Gardaí to service the entire area.
