Absence of stimulus package for north west a ‘missed opportunity’, says NWRA

The Northern and Western Regional Assembly says the absence of a specific stumulus package for the North West ‘could represent a missed opportunity’ for the region.

As part of its Budget 2022 submission, the Assembly had sought such a package to counter the impacts of Brexit and Covid in the effort to tackle long-term economic decline.

John Daly, economist with the Northern and Western Regional Assembly, says there were positives in the budget.

However, he added that the Assembly saw yesterday’s budget as a key opportunity to address economic challenges facing the north west.

He pointed out there had previously been specific regional stimulus packages, an example having been for the border region.
