A European Parliament member for the Midlands/North West says more people should have access to the fuel allowance because of the surge in energy prices across Europe.
Chris MacManus was speaking in the European Parliament in Strasbourg during a debate on the fallout of rising gas prices.
During the debate some MEPs said the crisis was a wake-up call for a faster transition to renewable energy.
Chris MacManu says ordinary householders are going to bear the brunt of increasing fuel prices during the coming months.
