Calls for 5-year plan for early-childhood sector

Early Childhood Ireland, which represents 211 childcare providers throughout the north west, has condemned a one-month extension of the employment wages subsidy as ‘the latest example of piecemeal arrangements’ for the early-years sector.

Early Childhood Ireland has 65 childcare members in Sligo, 36 in Leitrim and 110 in Donegal.

Frances Byrne, director of policy with the organisation, says young children deserve more than a short-term approach from government.

She is calling for a five-year plan for childcare.
