Jobs losses expected in Drinks Industry



The Drinks Industry Group of Ireland are predicting 3,400 job losses across the border counties in the drinks and hospitality sector in the new year.

 

Their analysis says there will be 40,000 fewer jobs nationally with rural areas, women, and young people being impacted the most.

 

DIGI has called on the government to reduce the excise tax rate by 7.5% which is the second-highest in Europe only behind Finland.

 

Anthony Gray, former President of the Restaurants Association of Ireland says the government needs to ‘incentivise people’ and ‘stop giving out free money.’
