Harkin claims that Covid can’t be blamed for the Health service failings

A Sligo Leitrim TD has described as ‘shocking’ the fact that 18% of the entire population is currently on hospital waiting lists.

Deputy Marian Harkin was speaking during a Dáil debate on hospital waiting lists.

The Independent TD says that the situation is particularly serious in the North West where Sligo and Letterkenny University Hospitals have some of the highest numbers in the Country waiting on hospital beds.

Deputy Harkin says this trend has been developing over a number of years and dismissed the suggestion that the recent increase can be attributed to the strain Covid-19 is putting on the health service.
