North West MEP says President took ‘the right stance’



A North West MEP says the President is has ‘taken the right stance’ in not attending a ceremony marking the centenary of Northern Ireland.

President Michael D. Higgins said the title of a church service in Armagh next month ‘isn’t a neutral statement politically’.

Midlands North West MEP, Chris MacManus says the President had highlighted his concerns in previous months but they were not addressed.

He says there were no attempts made to make it a ‘neutral ceremony.’
