Donegal TD says maritime planning system needs changing

A Donegal TD says the current system for planning maritime areas needs to move away from being developer led.

Independent Deputy, Thomas Pringle questions the accuracy of the likes of environmental reports that, he says, are paid for by developers stating he has ‘never seen a development NOT go ahead’ based on an Environmental Impact Services report.

He believes by moving to a plan led system, where in a local authority or Agriculture Department official would provide the reports which developers would then have to work off of, not the other way around.

Deputy Pringle says there is an onus on developers and groups to do all they can to mitigate the likes of pollution in Irish waters.
