Mica, pyrite campaigners in NW to pile on the pressure for 100% redress

Politicians throughout the north west are expected to come under increasing pressure in advance of the forthcoming budget as the campaign for 100% redress for owners of homes affected by Mica and pyrite gathers pace.

It follows the weekend protest in Lifford, Co Donegal, attended by up to 2,000 people.

While much of the publicity in relation to mica has been on Donegal and Mayo, the problem of pyrite is now emerging as a growing issue with houses in Sligo.

It followed the first public meeting in the county last week in Castleconnor, in west Sligo, attended by a number of local politcians.

More such meetings are expected in other areas in County Sligo.

A Donegal Mica campaigher says if the government does not provide 100% redress for the owners of homes affected, they, their children and grandchildren will never again vote for Fine Gael or Fianna Fail.

Paddy Diver also says a major billboard campaign is planned for Dublin for the next three weeks targetting the two parties.

He says the weekend protest was a huge success but he insists the pressure will be kept on the politicians.
