77 waiting for a bed and 32 Covid-19 patients in north west hospitals



The north west is among the worst hit when it comes to those waiting for a bed in Irish hospitals today according to the latest Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation Trolley Watch.

A total of 464 patients are waiting on trolleys or chairs around the country today which is the worst since the pandemic began.

There has been an increase in those waiting for a bed in recent weeks with the daily record being broken on two occasions last week.

42 people are waiting in Letterkenny University Hospital making it the fourth worst today nationally.

35 patients are also waiting in Sligo University Hospital.

While the waiting figures have been noticeably increasing week on week, there has been a drop in the number of Covid-19 patients in both hospitals.

There are currently 17 with the virus in Sligo and 15 in Letterkenny, down from highs of 27 in both hospitals in recent times.

HSE figures also show there three of the patients in Sligo are in the ICU with none in Letterkenny.
