Kilcar make winning start to 2021 Donegal Championship

Kilcar came from five points down to beat St Eunan’s in Letterkenny on the opening Sunday of the 2021 Michael Murphy Sports & Leisure senior football championship, on a final scoreline of 1-14 to 1-12.

Eunan’s led by 1-8 to 0-6 at the interval but an early second-half penalty from Paddy McBrearty, who contributed 1-8, helped spark a strond second-half by Kilcar.

Matthew McClean kicked four excellent points from play in the closing quarter to help his side towards victory.

The victory was a welcome distraction from the ongoing controversy surrounding the outcome of the 2020 county final.

Elsewhere, Ardara survived a second-half comeback from 13-man Bundoran to win by one point at Pearse Memorial Park – while Michael Murphy inspired Glensilly to a six-point win over Killybegs at Fintra.

The game was a costly one for the Fisherm3n with their two county playesr, Eoghan Bán Gallagher and Hugh McFadden taken off injured during the game.
