Calls for funding to upgrade Easkey sewage system

A Sligo Councillor will call on the county council at a meeting later this morning to again ask Irish Water to provide emergency funding for a full upgrade of the Easkey sewage system.

Independent Councillor Michael Clarke is also seeking an extension of the scheme to include 27 houses in the Fortland area.

More than 20 years ago, the works were estimated to cost €280,000.

Two years ago, Irish Water said storm water overflows in Easkey operate as they should and as they are designed to do in compliance with regulations.

However, Cllr Clarke says Easkey cannot grow until it has a sewage system like what is in Dromore West and Enniscrone.

He says this issue has been going on for decades.
