People encouraged to report breaches of personal data to local Garda Station

People are encouraged to report scam calls and any breach of their personal data to their local Garda Station.

Sergeant Paul Wallace, Divisional Crime Prevention Officer for An Garda Siochana in Co. Donegal says there has been a signficant increase in scam calls using the first 6 digits of your own mobile number.

He says the term is ‘Social Engineering’ where scammer aim to to gather the name, address, PPS number, bank account details and more personal information.

Speaking on OceanFM’s North West Today with Margaret Carr Flynn, Sergeant Wallace explains the difficulties police forces have in combating cyber crime.
