Major staff shortages in early childhood sector

Early Childhood Ireland is raising serious concerns about funding as crèches reopen across the north west this week.

It’s calling on the Government to double investment in childcare by 2028 and to publish a plan to achieve this in Budget 2022.

Its members are also reporting more staffing issues as workers seek out better pay and working conditions in other sectors.

Claire Barden, operates the Learn Early Montessori facilities in Ballymote and Collooney.  She providing child care for children under 12 months is no longer viable and added that there is a major staff shortage in the sector at present.
