Sligo’s Martin Gordon finishes 5th in 1000m Time Trial

Sligo sprint cyclist Martin Gordon and his tandem racing partner Eamonn Byrne finished 5th overall for Team Ireland in Saturday morning’s B 1000m Time Trial at the cycling velodrome in Tokyo.

The Irish duo produced an impressed sprint performance against the clock, setting a new personal best for the four laps of the velodrome track in a time of 1min 01.545 seconds.

The time saw them lead the competition with just four competitors remaining.

However, all four managed to record slightly faster times to leave Gordon and Byrne in fifth place.

The lads will return to competition on Tuesday for the Road Time Trial.

There was medal joy for Ireland on the Paralympics indoor track with Katie-George Dunlevy & Eve McCrystal winning silver in the B 3000m Individual Pursuit.
