Sligo/Leitrim TD says fights, muggings, drug-dealing on streets across the country

A Sligo/Leitrim TD is calling for more support for frontline and community gardai following an increase in random attacks and anti-social behaviour.

The Sinn Fein Justice Spokesman Deputy Martin Kenny says he has written to Garda Commissioner Drew Harris about the issue.

Deputy Kenny said the attack on one of Ireland’s Olympians, Jack Woolley, had highlighted the problem.

He added that it is happening not only in Dublin city centre but across various communities and includes organised street fights, assaults, muggins, drug-dealing and drug-use.

Deputy Kenny says there’s a clear link between what’s happening and the low presence of frontline gardai in communities.

He says it’s an issue not only in Dublin but in every town.
