New stretch of N4 open to traffic today



The N4 Collooney to Castlebaldwin dual carriageway is set to open to traffic today.

 

More than 30 people have lost their lives on the stretch of the N4 Sligo to Dublin road.

 

The Official opening of the new road is expected to take place later stage, possibly next month.

 

The dual carriageway which will reduce travel time between Dublin and Sligo.

 

The €80m construction project is one of the largest of it’s kind in the country that aims to make the route safer and more efficient.

 

A construction contract was awarded to Roadbridge Ltd. in January 2019 to carry out the project along approximately 14.7km of the N4 National Primary Route.

 

It passes through a number of areas such as Rathrippin, Collooney, Mullaghnabreena, Cloonamahan, Drumfin and Castlebaldwin with 12 bridges as part of the scheme.

 

Before works began, a range of archaeological and ecological surveys were carried out with some continuing at different areas of the site for the foreseeable future.
