The Director of Public Health for the HSE North West Region, Dr. Anthony Breslin is warning this morning that the number of Covid 19 cases in the counties of Sligo, Leitrim and Donegal is still a cause of major concern.
On average 15-30 new cases daily are being reported in Sligo, the number in Leitrim is estimated to be between 8 and 9 per day and in Donegal it’s thought to be between 90 and 120 per day.
Meanwhile the Chief Medical Officer has confired the incidence of Covid-19 is rising steadily in all age groups and in 21 of 26 counties.
The 14-day incidence rate is 493 cases per 100,000 people, the highest it has been since January.
1,496 new cases were reported here yesterday, while 230 were in hospital last night, and 54 in intensive care.
The number of daily admissions to ICU with the disease has also doubled from 3 to 6 in the past week.
Dr Breslin says that we are now at vital stage in the fight against Covid-19 and it’s vital that we continue to follow the public health guidelines.
