Farmers keeping eye on factory lamb — where it’s from and where it’s going

Concern has been expressed by farming officials in the north west again in recent days over the alleged importation of of sheep meat, which coincided with factories dropping the price of lamb.

The IFA claims factory management says this product is re-exported, primarily to the EU market, and that it is fully compliant with the regulatory labelling requirements; and does not carry the Bord Bia QA logo.

Leitrim man Kevin Comiskey is the IFA national Sheep vice chairman. He says there is always a concern that meet could be marked as Bord Bia or as Irish product.
