Too difficult for first time buyers to get on housing market

A Sligo Councillor says it’s too difficult for young and first time buyers to get on the housing market in the county.

Fianna Fail Councillor, Donal Gilroy says there haven’t been enough new houses built in recent years fearing it’s ‘only going to get worse’.

He says there has only been 139 new houses have been completed in Sligo in the past two years and that a change to the county development plan is needed to allow residential development in areas already beside houses.

Councillor Gilroy feels waiting for the new County Development Plan would be too late.
