€760,000 in funding to enhance rural towns and villages

€760,000 in funding is going towards the enhancement of streetscapes and shopfronts in rural towns and villages in Sligo, Leitrim and Donegal.

€320,000 has been allocated for Co. Donegal while Sligo and Leitrim will both receive €220,000 from a national fund of €7m under the Streetscape Enhancement Initiative.

The funds are to be used to support projects such as upgrading traditional shopfronts, providing for street planting such as shrubs, trees and flowers, the installation of canopies and street furniture.

Independent Donegal Councillor, Niamh Kennedy says it’s welcome news but hopes the funding is distributed fairly across their respective counties.
