12 patients with Covid-19 in Sligo and Letterkenny University Hospitals



24 patients with Covid-19 are in hospital in the north west today.

12 of them in Sligo University Hospital, the other 12 are in Letterkenny.

In each hospital, two patients with the virus are in ICU.

The number of people in hospitals nationally with Covid-19 has risen by 25% in the past week with 178 in Irish hospitals compared to 142 seven days ago.

1,015 new cases of the virus were confirmed yesterday.

The five-day moving average has dropped to 1,279 – the lowest since last Thursday.

The Chief Medical Officer’s urging people with Covid-19 symptoms to stay at home, even if they’re vaccinated.

Dr Tony Holohan says there’s a risk they could still transmit the illness.

He says outbreaks are occurring from people with symptoms attending workplaces, eating out or visiting friends.

Assistant Professor of Virology at UCD, Dr Gerald Barry, says it’s vital people take flu symptoms seriously.
