Sligo minors reach Connacht football final

Two second-half goals from midfielder Ross Doherty helped propel Sligo minor footballers into another Connacht final, as they ran out comprehensive winners over a gallant Leitrim team in Friday evening’s semi-final at Markievicz Park.

Sligo won on final scoreline of 2-18 to 2-9.

The sides were level at the interval with Brian McKenna’s first-half goal for Leitrim backing up a highly encouraging first half from Adrian Dockery’s side.

Sligo’s progress in the opening half was hampered by an early injury to their influential forward Ronan Niland.

However, Doherty’s two goals in the second half-hour were key to the Sligo win.

Leitrim did rally with a Ciaran Reynolds goal from play late on.

But Sligo were decisive winners by the finish with Luke Marren impressive, contributing a personal tally of 0-9.
