North West Farmers concerned with recreational walkers

Local representatives of the IFA have expressed concerns about recreational users not abiding by the Countryside Code during the recent spell of good weather.

The IFA claim there has been a huge increase in recreational users in recent weeks, as people holiday at home.

The Country’s largest farming body claim they are in favour of recreational walking, but the farmer can’t carry a financial risk from this activity.

It’s alos claimed that the insurance/indemnity issue is ongoing for farmers.

Details of a pilot insurance policy have been discussed recently with Justice Minister Heather Humprys  However, currently, nothing is in place to provide farmers with indemnification.

Kathleen Henry is the Sligo IFA Chairperson she says farmers have a number of concerns
