Calls for Garda checkpoints along border to prevent Covid spread



There are calls for Garda checkpoints at the border due to the high number of Covid-19 cases in the Republic and the North.

1,126 new cases have been detected here while 1,264 have been confirmed in Northern Ireland.

123 people are in hospital with the virus here and 22 patients are being treated in ICU.

Professor Julien Mecille from the Independent Scientific Advocacy Group says it’s vital infections north of the border don’t spread here.
