New initiative to connect those abroad with their north-west roots

One of Ireland’s leading diaspora initiatives is seeking partners in Sligo, Leitrim and Donegal to help people of Irish heritage abroad connect with their places of origin.

It’s an effort that has the potential to result in a significant increase of visitors to the north west.

Ireland Reaching Out has more than 150,000 members worldwide.

It now wants to team up with local organisations to help drive regional tourism as part of the economic recovers.

Laura Colleran is the Programme Manager for Ireland Reaching Out.

During the pandemic restrictions, people throughout the world took the time to research their past.

Now, with international travel opening up again, it’s expected this could result in a major influx of visitors, eager to see their places of origin, maybe even meet relations or people in the areas.
