Significant damage caused to passage tomb in Sligo



Gardaí are appealing for information following the discovery of substantial excavation at a passage tomb in Co. Sligo.

The illegal excavation at the Carrownamaddoo and Castle Dargan Passage Tomb has also caused significant damage to the ancient site.

It is against the law for anyone to purposefully dig or excavate in the search of archaeological artifacts.

Gardaí are asking people to be vigilant while out and about and are appealing to members of the public not to interfere with any historic site.

Anyone who notices suspicious activity or damage to these sites to please report it to either The National Monuments Service or you local Garda Station.
