‘Need for meeting with Minister over Sligo Garda Station’, says councillor

A Sligo councillor says it’s now time for the Minister for Justice to meet with a deputation from Sligo about providing a new Garda station in the town, for which a site at Caltragh has already been bought.

A local deputation has already met with the Garda Commissioners but councillors are not satisfied with the answers they received.

It’s been claimed the Commissioner decided that the current Garda station should be refurbished.

The issue has been raised in the Dail on a number of occasions, most recently yesterday by Independent Sligo/Leitrim Deputy Marian Harkin who asked Taoiseach Micheal Martin to intervene.

However, Sligo Sinn Fein Councilor Thomas Healy says the eventual decision to build a new Garda station will be a political one.
