Construction contract signed for surf centre in Strandhill



The construction contract for the National Surf Centre of Excellence in Strandhill, Co. Sligo has been signed.

 

The €2.7m facility is being funded by Sligo County Council, Failte Ireland and the Department of Rural and Community Development.

 

It will cater for local and international surfers providing start of the art training rooms, equipment such as video analysis and a virtual surfing experience.

 

The reputation of Strandhill as a prime surfing destination has continued to improve over the years with the centre aiming to cater to the increase in activity.

 

Chair of Strandhill Community Maritime Company and Independent Councillor, Declan Bree says there was extensive consultation with surfers and the local community on what was needed.

 

He believes the centre will attract an increasing number of visitors to the region.
