North West TD concerned with omission of Sligo from property tax exemptions

Homeowners in Donegal and Mayo impacted by Mica are to receive a six-year exemption from the Local Property Tax, however, it’s not yet clear whether similar allowances will be made for those impacted by the condition in Sligo.

Minister for Finance, Paschal Donohue announced the measures yesterday adding that they were introduced due to the ‘massive anxiety for homeowners’.

Independent Sligo/Leitrim TD, Marian Harkin is concerned that Sligo was omitted – something which has led to her constituents already contacting her in relation to the matter.

Taoiseach, Micheal Martin previously told Deputy Harkin her points about including Sligo were valid as ‘defective blocks don’t respect county boundaries

Speaking to OceanFM News, Deputy Harkin outlined that while it’s welcome news for those in Donegal and Mayo, there needs to be clarity around the scheme for those in the likes of Sligo, Clare, and anywhere else where the defective blocks are impacting peoples homes.
