Sligo Councillor says rent increases and evictions have to be stalled



A Sligo councillor is urging the local authority to write to the government to ensure freezes on rent increases and evictions are extended.

 

Sinn Fein Councillor, Arthur Gibbons, has submitted a motion at the upcoming of the County Council.

 

Councillor Gibbons cited government figures that claim monthly rent prices have increased by 2.5% nationally now costing €1,256.

 

Speaking to OceanFM News, he says that is a ‘massive’ payment for people even with the Pandemic Unemployment Payment.
