Warning issued over the possibility of Covid -19 cases increasing in Sligo and Donegal

A top public health official in the north west has today confirmed that medical experts have concerns in relation to the spread of Covid-19 parts of Sligo and Donegal.

Whereas no confirmation has been established that there has been any spread Delta variant, those that are displaying any Covid symptoms are asked to follow Covid-19 guidelines and restrict their movements immediately.

Dr. Anthony Breslin Director of Public Health north west is urging people in parts of County Sligo where cases have increased to take extra precautions in order to prevent the spread of Covid-19 in the County.

There has been an increase in the number of positive cases over the past number of days in parts of Sligo County including Coolaney.

Dr. Anthony Breslin says is urging those in areas where case numbers have increased that feel they have any symptoms of Covid-19 to restrict their movements:

Dr. Breslin has also expressed concern in relation to the likelihood of the number of cases in Donegal increasing.

These concerns are based on recent events such as large numbers descending on the County last weekend when the annual Donegal Rally should have been staged.

A number of Covid-19 cases have also been connected with people from Donegal traveling on buses to a major Mica protest in Dublin last week.

Whereas it’s too early yet to establish if there will be additional cases of Covid-19 as a result of large numbers traveling to Letterkenny last weekend to mark the weekend when the Donegal Rally should have been staged, Dr. Breslin is urging those that were in Letterkenny to act if they feel they have any Covid symptoms:
