Tributes paid to former Sligo Mayor and Cathaoirleach



The death has taken place of the Former Sligo Councillor and Mayor, Padraig Branley.

 

Padraig Branley was a native of Glencar and first elected to Sligo Borough Council in 1994 and Sligo County Council in 1999.

 

He was elected Mayor of Sligo in 1998 and Cathaoirleach of Sligo County Council in 2002.

 

The Cathaoirleach, Mayor and Acting Chief Executive of Sligo County Council are among those who have paid tributes to the late former Councillor.

 

Current Cathaoirleach of the Local authority in Sligo says Padraig Branley made a massive contribution to local politics in Sligo:

 

 

 

The contribution from Padraig Branley to public life was recognised at a special function in his honour hosted by Fianna Fail in 2012.

 

 

Mayor of Sligo Councillor Rosaleen O Grady served recalled Padraig as ‘a close family friend, one of nature’s gentlemen who was highly regarded by his fellow Councillors, staff and the public he served.’

 

Acting Chief Executive Tom Kilfeather said Padraig ‘will be fondly remembered for his decency and friendly nature, as well as his valued contribution to local politics and business .
