Innishmurray Island to re-open in 2022

The island Innishmurray, located 7km off the coast of Sligo, will reopen in 2022.

Access to the island was controversially restricted by the Marine Survey Office at the Department of Transport, Tourism, and Sport in 2018 due to concerns around embarking and disembarking.

Fianna Fail Sligo Councillor, Donal Gilroy says plans are in an advanced stage to cut steps into the rock at the natural harbor on the island.

He doesn’t believe it should have been closed in the first place but is happy that it will reopen in the near future.
