Meeting to be held over maintaining Teeling Monument



Sligo County Council are to meet with the National Grave Association to discuss the avenues available in restoring and maintaining the Teeling Monument at Carricknagat, Collooney.

The limestone statue of Bartholomew Teeling was erected on the centenary of the 1798 rising in 1898.

It has over the last 100 plus years fallen into disrepair however the NGA say that ongoing maintenance of the site is challenging due to limited resources .

Speaking to OceanFM News, Independent Councillor, Marie Casserly says the monument is of historical importance to the region and is need of being restored to it’s ‘full glory.’
