Local residents disappointed by decision to grant planning permission for new turbines

The decision by the local authorities in Leitrim and Sligo to grant planning permission to Coillte to build 10 industrial wind turbines, 8  of which are in Leitrim and 2 in Sligo has been strongly criticised by local residents close to the proposed site between Drumkeerin and Dromahair.

The new turbines will be 70% taller than the existing turbines.

‘Wind Aware Dromahair’, a local community group campaigning in opposition to Coillte’s says they will object to the decision.

The group claims further landslides in the area are an unacceptable risk.  They are also concerned with the loss of biodiversity as a result of the development.

Adrienne Diamond is a spokesperson for the Wind Aware group Dromahair,   She says they will appeal the decision to grant the planning permission to An Bord Pleanála.
