A Leitrim Councillor has raised concerns over the amount of money being spent by the government on an annual basis to subsidies private landlords.
In monetary terms it’s claimed that the amount spent is in excess of 1 billion euro, which represents nearly a third of all government spending on housing.
Padraig Fallon is a Sinn Fein Councillor based in Drumkeerin, he say the current housing assistance payments are inflating rent prices.
Cllr Fallon says that subsidising landlords is a short term solution and that more should be invested in constructing new houses.
