Councillors say Cliffoney will continue to have a post office

Two Sligo councillors say the north Sligo village of Cliffoney will not be losing its post office when the current contract with An Post expires later this year.

Yesterday, Fianna Fail Councillor Donal Gilroy said said it is believed the current post office will be closing but he added there are hopes that the business will remain in the village.

Cliffoney Post Office was threatened with closure in 2018 but, after a local campaign for its retention, it was saved after a review by An Post, which extended its contract for another three years.

This morning, Independent Councillor Marie Casserly said she wanted to assure people in the area that a post office will continue to be located in Cliffoney.

Sinn Fein Councillor Thomas Healy also says the post office will remain in Cliffoney.

He added that it’s now unprofitable for many post offices to operate as standalone businesses and, therefore, they were increasingly being moved in with other businesses.
