Fine Gael Councillor Barry Sweeney has been elected as the new Cathaoirleach, or chairman, of the Donegal Municipal District.
He was first elected to the council in the last local elections in 2019; Fine Gael Cllr Barry O Neill had earlier announced he was stepping down.
A well known artist, and community activist, Cllr Sweeney has been involved in the Ballyshannon Regeneration Group for many years.
After his election today, he told Ocean FM News of his hopes for the year ahead.
